Jasper chooses not to think about the childhood he vividly remembers. His parents (Amara and Ludmil) constantly fought and (messily) divorced when he was 8. His older sister (Alisa) took him in and became his legal guardian once she turned 18. When Jasper was 12 he was playing tag with some friends near a river, while he was “it” one of his friends tripped while running from him and fell into the river's rapids. This caused her untimely death and left Jasper with permanent trauma and guilt leading him to cut off connection to all of his other friends. When he pleaded his case to the court he was deemed ‘not guilty’ and let him go. His sister tried to help console him but he rejected the offers. Alisa and her friends all scraped and saved to get enough money to send Jasper to college where he studied medicine and surgery. While he was cooking in his dorm he got distracted and the food caught fire, causing the apartment to catch aflame. Amongst the panicked residents, Jasper noticed a little girl who had gotten separated from her parents. Long story short, he led the girl to safety, resulting in half his face being scarred beyond repair and leaving him blind. Unfortunately both the girl and the parents died due to smoke inhalation and the infections from the burns they received.
